Day 1 The Mob Rules Lawrenceville

"What now honey?" Toni asks me as I drive away from the crowd of hungry Zeds.  "Let's run into Bullseye and grab a couple of guns and some more ammo."  We circled the block and lost them. When we came back around, the streets looked deserted.  "Ready?" I asked the love of my life.  "Let's go."  Her attitude has taken on a frosty air I normally associated with telemarketers and the people who stop you in the mall to do surveys.  I knew she wasn't mad at me, just getting her mind right for what was next.
As we hopped out, the street erupted into chaos.  A mad rush of the same idiots who were at the Cornerstop came out of the alley, screaming and pushing.  As I turned into them, football practice and SCA sheild wall bashing came in handy. Toni had no such practice.  We'd put her in armor all of once, and she said it was too hot.  We still had the armor for her, but she had no idea how to bust a gap and swim thru the opening.  Down she went, stunned.  I could see she'd be okay, but was going to need a minute to recover.
I grabbed her and threw her into the truck, locking it.  Then jogging, head swiveling to spot danger, I headed for Bullseye.  I just wanted another shotgun and some more ammo.  Maybe another 9mm, but I didn't want to be greedy.  Others would need them too.
The crowd behind me ran down the street as I heard shuffling noises in the alley.  Guess I know now what they were running from.  I got to the front door of bullseye and yanked it open.  It was  empty of humans and zeds alike.  Worse, all the guns were gone!  It didn't look like the place had been looted, so I guessed they had locked up the stock in the back, or maybe upstairs.  I know the guys at the shop pretty well, and figured that if they were holed up in back I could talk them out of some supplies. I
I headed for the back door.  That was my mistake.  I heard yelling in the back room.  As I opened the door more people stampeded out.  I turned my shoulder into them, but took an unlucky step and fell.  They rushed over and on top of me in thier haste to leave. I just faded to black.....

The inital layout.

This was going to be a quick in and out for me.  I figured the gun store would be like a big box store objective, with guns... right?  I made the getting there roll, again passing 1d6 and since it is the second stop, I was okay.  I rolled and only had 2 zeds to begin with.  I placed them, put my models on the board, and rolled my 2 dice for the number of terrified civilians.  I gulped when 11 came to play.  Not daunted, started with 6 for me and 5 for Toni.  She got through 3, but the fourth knocked her oof.  I finished the rest.  Ouch.

I lock Toni in the cab of the Tundra for Safety.
Turn 1 zeds 6 me 1 civilians 4.  Rolling a 7 meant that 3 zeds showed up, all in the same place as one of the first ones, down the alley from the truck.  I rolled for a fast move and got it.  I figured that recovering Toni and putting her in the truck, locking the doors was my best option.  I lost half my move to do that, and moved 4" toward the objective.

Turn 2 z1 m2 c6 I moved fast 8" to get to store, not quite there.  The zeds close in on what looks like lunch to them.

What the Civilians were running from.

Turn 3 z5 m 3 c3  I enter gun store, roll that it is empty. The next roll of 4 shows it has not been looted.  I then check it, and roll a damn 5. Nothing.  Sigh.  5 of the civies run off the board while the others close in on the end of the street.

The disappointing gun store

Turn 4 doubles leads to 5 civilians.  z3 m1 c3.  I get thru 3 of the civilians before one knocks me oof.  Crap. This location is over for me.
Me snoozing on the sidewalk... What happens next.

A quick check of the rules says that some Dues Ex Machina happens.  I come to and go to the next location.  Wow.  A couple of bad dice rolls are wicked in this game.  Glad for it being day one!

  1. I sympathise with your character getting knocked out by a panicked mob. What can I say but, been there, done that, but didn't get the T-shirt! It had been looted!!!

    1. Humor to ease the pain? You bet. It was a lesson for me. I've also altered my plans as to where to go in what order. I talked about what we would do should it happen. She has no interest in playing the game, but rather enjoys the intellectual exercise of what if. Next stop? Wal Mart.

    1. This is ugly. The mobs are nasty, and I don't know what I'd have done if it wasn't for the brawler skill.

    1. True enough. It got ugly. Glad day one can be forgiving. When exactly do you roll to increase rep? I figured it would be after all of Day 1 was over.
