Wow, am I an idiot sometimes. I was preparing my next bit of zombie killing and going over the rules for buildings and such. I was reading the rules. You know, the game system I just spent a week playing? And screwing up?
Zombies only get one dice in combat. One. Only. I have been giving them two. Don't ask me why. I only gave them one in the very first game I played with Kelson. Zombies move six inches, not four. I read those rules. Really I did. I think I confused them with the panic stricken citizens. Still, it was screwed up. I was wrong. Happens. I guess the one plus and one minus makes up for each other. I hope so anyway. I am going to leave the campaign the way it stands, except for the fuel. I think there looting chart says I got fuel, but then kind of falls down when it says how much. I also wonder about the loot food. 1 food unit is good for 1 survivior for 1 month, with rules for having less. It seems that food will be highly prized quickly. Are there rules for growing any? I got some great rules from the guys at The Board of the Living Lead. I will be able to use my sword (machete) and my crossbow now. Thanks guys. I think I have it all read now.
It's the first time I've played a solo wargame. Usually have someone to walk me through the first couple of games. Now I have to figure it all out on my own. I expect I will be screwing it up more as I go. I hope I catch them as I do. Feel free to let me know in the comments if you see something I tanked.
Well, Toni, Dexter and I are off to the gas station. I need to get Day 2 underway.
We all made mistakes in the first games we played. Not to worry, you are still alive.
ReplyDeleteI figure right now it's "no blood, no foul". I'm going to keep playing it. I'd thought about just starting over, but it sounded to me like I was calling sour grapes.
DeleteHe He I will do the same next week when I plan to do my first game!
ReplyDeleteAny questions just post em someone will help :D
I learned a lot from reading the batreps on other peoples sites. I have been bugging the heck out of the board, and thankfully people are very helpful.
DeleteI play NMRIH, which are way less complicated that I heard ATZ is supposed to be (or we should way less detailed? ;) ), and I was having problems every game, I guess it just takes time. Problem whne playing solo is, there is noone to fix your mistakes! :D
ReplyDeleteI think you are right, Mathyoo, about it taking time. I've been playing games for years and it always takes me a bit of poking at a system to get it right.
DeleteWe all make mistakes, Charles. Heck, I made loads before I started chronicling my campaign on my blog and even then, I still cocked up a few times. It can be a problem when you're playing solo, but it's not all bad news. Help is always at hand from other bloggers and on forum sites like the Board of the Living Lead. I've found zombie gamers to be the most friendly and helpful. We like to look out for one another, and that's very reassuring.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more Vampifan. The only reason I ventured into the blogosphere was because of the community here. You guys are great. Thanks so much for all the help.
DeleteThe ATZ rules (including the supplements) are not that well laid out and I've come across one or two mistakes in the book.
