WIP Zeds

I thought I would post a pic of the WIP Zeds.  These guys are the Cobblestone minis I talked about in the last post.  With a whole horde to finish, I am trying all kinds of colors for skin, bloodiness, etc.  I even had a couple of  friends over at Triumph Games give me a hand with some of these.  I would guess that zombies don't get together and have a meeting about dress code and how fast to decompose.  I could be wrong, and there might soon be a ring at the doorbell with a couple of zeds from the local 247 / IBBE (International Brotherhood of Brain Eaters).  But I think not.  Anyway... these are the beginnings of my horde.  Comments are welcome, as are tips.  Should you feel the need, come  by and paint a few.  I figure at the end of the day there will be a couple hundred of the things.  I apologize for the pics, they are phone shots.  I need to dig out my regular camera and retry.  Perhaps with a building in the background.  I plan on changing the billboard to either a Jimmy Gibbs Jr. or Midnight Riders one.

The on the right pics didn't take so well.  I hope you can see them in the next shot.  Ignore the casting going on in the background.

The whole shooting match

  1. Not bad at all. You may try to give them a wash. Devlan mud from GW is recommmendable for this. It will dirty them up a bit and give some good shading. A bit of highlight after the wash and Jobs a good one.

    1. Thanks. I might try that as well, the minwax was supposed to do it all in one go.

  2. Devlan mud is brown wash, brown shade if you go for Vallejo :P

Anyways, great job on picking the name, Zombies are red, pirates are blue, only thing missing are ninjas you. (it rhymes if you try)

The good thing about painting zeds is, everything works. And if there is a part you're not satisfied with, just paint some blood over it. For blood, people highly recommend tamiya clear red. It has a glossy finish, and I have to agree I have never seen a "bloodier" paint.

And this billboard seems just fine, if you ask me :)

    1. Glad you like the name. I need to pick some of the tamiya up. The nearby store has none, the one on the other side of town (in Atlanta, that means about an hour or so away) has all I can use.

    2. I could get from my home in centre of the country to the sea side in one hour! :P

For tamiya, I got mine by sheer luck while visiting Vienna, I could only get one in my country if I would order it from somewhere else, postage costing more than paints itself -.-

    3. That's pretty funny to me Mathyoo. The nearest sea side is about six hours away. The only time I was in Vienna, I wasn't in the mini store...

  3. Great start, I'm a rubbish painter, but you'd be surprised how a wash will add to the overall paint-job - experiment is my advise.

    1. Having seen your painting, I respectfully disagree with your evaluation of your skills, sir. I will take your advice and experiment. Thanks!

    1. You like the billboard? Maybe I'll try to make a larger one and put the Midnight Riders and Jimmy Gibbs Jr. on it, back to back. Calhoun Ga, the location of Whispering Oaks (LFD2 scenario imaginary amusement park) is not that far away. They could reasonably advetise for a concert there in my hometown.
