Day 1 The Mob Rules Lawrenceville

"What now honey?" Toni asks me as I drive away from the crowd of hungry Zeds.  "Let's run into Bullseye and grab a couple of guns and some more ammo."  We circled the block and lost them. When we came back around, the streets looked deserted.  "Ready?" I asked the love of my life.  "Let's go."  Her attitude has taken on a frosty air I normally associated with telemarketers and the people who stop you in the mall to do surveys.  I knew she wasn't mad at me, just getting her mind right for what was next.
As we hopped out, the street erupted into chaos.  A mad rush of the same idiots who were at the Cornerstop came out of the alley, screaming and pushing.  As I turned into them, football practice and SCA sheild wall bashing came in handy. Toni had no such practice.  We'd put her in armor all of once, and she said it was too hot.  We still had the armor for her, but she had no idea how to bust a gap and swim thru the opening.  Down she went, stunned.  I could see she'd be okay, but was going to need a minute to recover.
I grabbed her and threw her into the truck, locking it.  Then jogging, head swiveling to spot danger, I headed for Bullseye.  I just wanted another shotgun and some more ammo.  Maybe another 9mm, but I didn't want to be greedy.  Others would need them too.
The crowd behind me ran down the street as I heard shuffling noises in the alley.  Guess I know now what they were running from.  I got to the front door of bullseye and yanked it open.  It was  empty of humans and zeds alike.  Worse, all the guns were gone!  It didn't look like the place had been looted, so I guessed they had locked up the stock in the back, or maybe upstairs.  I know the guys at the shop pretty well, and figured that if they were holed up in back I could talk them out of some supplies. I
I headed for the back door.  That was my mistake.  I heard yelling in the back room.  As I opened the door more people stampeded out.  I turned my shoulder into them, but took an unlucky step and fell.  They rushed over and on top of me in thier haste to leave. I just faded to black.....

The inital layout.

This was going to be a quick in and out for me.  I figured the gun store would be like a big box store objective, with guns... right?  I made the getting there roll, again passing 1d6 and since it is the second stop, I was okay.  I rolled and only had 2 zeds to begin with.  I placed them, put my models on the board, and rolled my 2 dice for the number of terrified civilians.  I gulped when 11 came to play.  Not daunted, started with 6 for me and 5 for Toni.  She got through 3, but the fourth knocked her oof.  I finished the rest.  Ouch.

I lock Toni in the cab of the Tundra for Safety.
Turn 1 zeds 6 me 1 civilians 4.  Rolling a 7 meant that 3 zeds showed up, all in the same place as one of the first ones, down the alley from the truck.  I rolled for a fast move and got it.  I figured that recovering Toni and putting her in the truck, locking the doors was my best option.  I lost half my move to do that, and moved 4" toward the objective.

Turn 2 z1 m2 c6 I moved fast 8" to get to store, not quite there.  The zeds close in on what looks like lunch to them.

What the Civilians were running from.

Turn 3 z5 m 3 c3  I enter gun store, roll that it is empty. The next roll of 4 shows it has not been looted.  I then check it, and roll a damn 5. Nothing.  Sigh.  5 of the civies run off the board while the others close in on the end of the street.

The disappointing gun store

Turn 4 doubles leads to 5 civilians.  z3 m1 c3.  I get thru 3 of the civilians before one knocks me oof.  Crap. This location is over for me.
Me snoozing on the sidewalk... What happens next.

A quick check of the rules says that some Dues Ex Machina happens.  I come to and go to the next location.  Wow.  A couple of bad dice rolls are wicked in this game.  Glad for it being day one!

Lawrenceville Erupts Into Chaos. Film at 11

The radio news had been awful all day.  Some kind of sickness was causing people to do crazy things and there was even the "Z" word being used.  I figured the best thing to do was grab Toni, head home and fort up.  Mentally going over the house supplies, I realized we were short on foods.  If this was going to last a while, we might need more, as well emergency stuff.  First things first though.

Get Toni.  I rolled up the street to the first parking spot open and hopped out of my truck grabbing my practice sword.  Seemingly from nowhere, a bunch of people stampeded right for me.  Pushing and shoving, even whacking a couple with the stick and I made my way through them.

Breathing heavily, I started walking down the street to the cafe.  Some drunk came stumbling out of McCray's Tavern.  I walked past him, still fuming about people who were being rude.

Still walking to the cafe, I notice the drunk is following me.  Creepy.  Better get Toni home and away from this insanity.

Creeped out a bit by the drunk following me, I jog over to the Cornerstop and call out for Toni. As I open the front door, 3 of the patrons bolt past me, almost pushing me down.  I am getting pissed off now.  Then I spot Toni, shaking a frying pan at the mob gathered in the back of the cafe.  "You came for me!" She is close to tears, but not scared a bit.  Happy to see me, she says.  About then I realize that one of the idiots walking around outside isn't just stupid, he'd dead.  There is a hole in his chest the size of a baseball, and he's trying get in the cafe!

I jump at him, bringing out my tourney winning snap shot.  Connecting with his temple, he quits moving.  I think he's done.  But I'm not sure.  How do you kill something that is already dead?  Where are the police?  The Army?  Well, time for some thrilling heroics, I guess.

Still more people push past me, almost knocking me down again.  Crazy, and I know a lot of these people damn it!
Now that I see how they move differently, I see several zombies on the street, and one of them charges Jack Everett, an Attorney who had been having lunch.  He screams and smashes the zombie to the floor with his briefcase.

"Toni, grab some food.  We're going to need it at home."  She just nods and grabs a bunch of cans, putting them in ever present messenger bag she carries.  Bag over her shoulder, frying pan in one hand and to go cup of sweet tea in the other, she heads out the door to me.  As I'm watching, out of the corner of my eye I see another shambler stagger at me.  I rush to meet it, beating it with my stick, and it goes down.

"Let's get out of here!"  We take off for the truck at a jog, and the rest of the crowd runs the other way.  I am a bit nervous about getting to the truck.  I see some zombies facing away from us as we jog that way.  We move as quietly as possible, but the sight at the rear of the truck is sickening.  A bloody corpse is starting to stir.

"Run for it!" I yell, and we get to the truck.  About half a dozen zombies were around the corner where I couldn't see them.  Crap, they were coming for us.

We jumped in the truck, Toni hood sliding like Luke Duke, and I got us the hell out of there.  Don't mind telling you how badly that frighted me.  I decided there and then to grab my armor and the shotgun before heading back out for more stuff.  Shit just got real!

This is the new, smaller 3 x 3 board.  The objective (Wife's work) is the small brown building in the middle. I will enter from the right.  I chose this because in real life, I would get her safe first.  So I played this as it would be on today, July 13th, (a Friday) 2012.  In my truck is my practice SCA sword, (1 handed weapon 1 impact) and a lock bladed knife.  I am a rep 3 civilian with brawler (lucky for me) and slow. I passed the getting there roll with 1 d6, and it is counted as getting there on time.  Toni is a rep 3 civilian with Stone Cold (I had no idea she would turn out to have nerves of steel.  Rolled it.)  I will assume she picked up a frying pan (1 handed 1 impact weapon) when things got crazy.  She occasionally goes shooting at the gun range around the corner, but did not today, so no pistol for her.  Might have been useful. I rolled 3 Zeds to start, placed them, took a deep breath and rolled for the first turn.
<> </>

Who is that shuffling along in the distance?

Turn 1 and insanity ensues. Zeds 6 Me 1.  I roll  7!!!!! civilians come out of nowhere when I get out of the truck, trying to get down the street.  I have no idea why they trying to run me over, but I managed (barely) to push my way thru them.  (I hope I did this part right.... I counted the ones I tied with (2) as pushing past me.
The unruly mob!

The real cornerstop Cafe, from inside my truck.
Won the other combats.) I move 4 inches (failing to move fast), trying to get to the Cornerstop Cafe.

Turn 2 doubles produced 1 more civilian to argue with, then Zed 3 me 2 Civ 5 (I figured the civilians had thier own init, and it would not count for doubles, 7's, and 11's.   A boy civy is charged by a zombie and retires, hunkering down around the corner. A zombie comes staggering out of the shop in front of me, yet I fail to recognize it as such.  I walk blithely past, again failing to move fast.  Guess that slow is true!

Turn 3 z6, m2 c5.  I finally pass a fast move test (1dice)
Turn 4 z2 m1 c3.  Most of the Civs run off the board, the new guy makes it the edge.  The zombie near me gets closer and the one near the civilians closes in.  I move a little closer to the Cafe.
It must be hard to see with the chemical mask on.

Turn 5 z5 m2 c6.  I pass my fast move test and get to the Cornerstop.  There is my beautiful wife, cold eyed and clutching a frying pan as a bunch of unruly customers are milling around the back of the cafe, unsure what to do.
Turn 6 doubles z1 m4 c 6.  I pass a zed no zed test with 2 dice. I have to deal with 3 civies pushing past me into the street, and just as i turn around I am charged by a zombie, and pass  my test with one dice.  We come to 0 successes in combat, staying locked.

Turn 7 z3 m 4 c5 The civie near the cornerstop is locked in combat with his zombie, passing his charged test 1d6 but being unable to deal with him. My combat is more successful, making mine obviously dead.
Attorney beats man with briefcase.  Suit pending.
Turn 8 doubles produce 3 civilians z 1 m6 c6 rolling a 7 means 3 zombies appear, coming out of the store where the first zombie appeared. The civie near the cafe kills his zed,
The one near my truck loses horribly.  A four turn feast ensues.

This poor guy is the only reason I got to keep my truck.  He drug the zeds away from us.
Turn 9 doubles (again, the board is getting crowded!) 4 civies to deal with, z 6 m2 civ 1.  I fight the civies first, again tying even with my advantages. Finally we activate, search and find food, strangely enough in a cafe, and the civies run off.
Ran out of modern civies, so my Mordheim gang gets a cameo.
Turn 10 z1 m5 c 6
Turn 11 z3 m 5 c1 I pass a being charged test, as the lone zed around the corner gets into the action. I win the combat and knock him down. The zombies near the truck join the feast.

Wiser than I am perhaps, they head off for a nearby table edge.
Turn 12  z2 m5 c4.  2 more zeds arrive at the storefront.
What's that blubbering sound?
Turn 13 doubles...sigh 1 civie. z2 m1 c5.  the zombies finished their meal. They move to the hunkered down boy, killing him and starting to feast again for 4 turns.

Dessert!

Turn 14 z3 m6 c 5
Turn 15 z 2 m 4 c1 the civies run while the feasting continues
Turn 16 z6 m 3 c 4 we fail to fast move, but get closer to the truck

Run for the truck Baby!
Turn 17 z3 m4 c4 generating 2 new zeds out of cafe.
Turn 18 z4 m6 c3 zeds move to close distance to us.
Turn 19 z1 m2 c1 We race to board edge, but don't quite get off the edge.  Zeds come close.  Much depends on next roll.
Turn 20  Z6 m2 c3.... Whew!  We jump in truck and roar off.... What a game!  The board was empty to start and full when we finished.

A little help please

I am planning on running my day one campaign soon.  I would like to run it as Me.  Given that, here are my answers to the Day one questions, and I have a quandry.  I am unsure if I should run a rep 3 or rep 4.  Your input will be helpful.
I am: 46years old
        Married, no kids
Wife at work, Cornerstop Cafe, Downtown Lawrenceville
Own my own home (well, with the bank for another 23 years....)
Office is about 5 blocks from wife's job.  I do sales, so I am often out and about.
I would go get my wife first.
My job is sedentary, true.  I fight in the SCA and have for 22 years now.  They knighted me for prowess on the field.   I am not in great shape, about 6'7" (198cm) and 310 lbs (beer gut would be the right term).  When it comes to fighting with a stick... got it.  Running long distances?  Only if a large horde is chasing me, and then not for long.  That's my quandry.  I shoot okay, not fantastic.  Should I run a split rep?  Maybe 3 for everything but hand to hand?  Should I shut up and just run a 3?
        Lawrenceville is suburban.
        Supplies...
        No materials to barricade dwelling
Food = 1 food between us
        No Generator
        Weapons
        Swords (2)
        Spear (boar)
        Pistol, 9mm
        Shotgun 12ga pump
        Mosin Nagat rifle
Fair amount of ammo, not crazy.  Usually buy more when we go to shoot.
Plenty of improvised weapons (SCA Swords are sticks...Hard sticks)
        Vehicles
         Toyota Tundra (Pickup)
Pt Cruiser (Minivan / Station wagon crossbreed)
         Luxury Goods
Not much, some jewelry, the wife smokes so some packs of cigarettes, a few bottles of beer.  Kind of out of luck there.
I would go to get my wife first.  (Odd they ask this twice)
Then to the Bullseye gun store (On the same block)  I need ammo, and would try to get another shotgun.
Then go home (Armor, weapons, Dogs, Gas cans, etc)
        ATM
        Supermarket
Big Box Store (home depot to get lumber, generator, more gas cans)
To my friend gunthers house (guns, he's an army ranger, if he's not home have to get his wife and kids)
Gas Station to fill up vehicles and gas cans)
That's where I am.  I going to play soon, and need your help.  I keep a practice sword in my truck.  What shoud I do about rep?

State of the Horde on July 11

I've been working on my Zeds.  I have just finished the last of this round, and now can boast of a 32 zombie horde. I finally punted and used sand and grey paint on the bases.  They are looking more like a horde now, not very consistent in color scheme, but that is what I wanted.  I've also been working on the Ezzard building.  It is in the background.  It needs an interior, but the outside is done.  Once I've done the insides, I will base it like Niko's.  Speaking of Niko's, it is done but for the sign.   My wife is the holdup there, and I am just unwilling to push that button too often.  She had opened her photoshop and worked on it a while, but got mad when the pics came out the wrong size when printed... So I am waiting again.  As soon as I can get the sign for it and the billboard done, I post pics.  I've done the inside of the wine shop, butsted out the windows, put in a counter and some shelves and tables, and boarded the front door.  At any rate, here is the current horde that is finished.
Rawr!

Aside from that, I understand the the Zombicde games are onboard ship, headed for the US now.  I am excited, a lot.

The ManCave in all it's (unholy) glory

You guys wanted to see pics of the the cave, well, here it is.
This is my zombie table, 4x8.  In the background are some of the shelving units with games on them dating back to the mid 80's.

Facing the other way, standing next to the shelving.  You can only see the bottom of some of my broken dead shields.  I use some of the old ones a wall decorations.

The other table is mordhiem ready in about 10 minutes, there are currently modeling projects residing on it as well.

At the head of the mordhiem table is an Egyptian Coffin made for a party.  It was Pharaohs and Faries, come as your favorite. Lots of fun costumes there.
The end of the mordhiem table, some more shelving, and on the top are some of my sailing ships.  You can see a Longship and a Snow.  I have some more ships and crew being done to let me pretend to be Jack Aubrey as well, in 28mm.

More storage, behind the Pharaoh's Tomb, mostly Khador and Space Marines here.
The Painting/Modelling work station.  I a sad to say, not used enough.
Finally, the Bar in the background.  I keep talking about putting up drywall and making it more liveable.  I secretly worry that if I do, I might lose some of the space to my wife.

Well, that's my mancave, minus the bathroom and my SCA room.  As always, comments and suggestions are welcome.
